I always plan of staying aware of advances in technology because it is my motivation to work harder and earn more money.  The way that I plan on staying aware is by the same way that am aware today, by reading advertisements and articles on the Internet or in magazines or newspaper articles or online.  It also may be a critical part of my future employment.  I plan on doing something involving computers so I would need to stay abreast of what is going on.  To not be aware is to be out of a job because people will always go with the service that is faster and better than the competition.  The problem I see is what the government will do to limit my access to the technology.

What many of these major companies fear is the improvement of technology to transfer data, whether it be games, music, or movies.  Currently there is legislation seeking to make peer-to-peer (p2p) programs illegal.  P2P technology has its good uses.  Bittorrent allows for multiple servers that host the same content to share in the transfer of data to computers.  It was and is used by institutions of higher learning now.  But because these companies, whom I can guarantee you aren’t losing as much money as they are reporting to lose, have the ear of several legislators in Washington, this way of transferring information may either be severely limited or outlawed in the future.  What I want to do involves transferring data.  If I can’t use these methods of transferring large amounts of data, then it will make my job much more difficult.

What these people don’t realize is that when one thing goes away or is taken away, something similar will replace it.  Technology is something that constantly evolves and nothing can stop it legally or otherwise.  That’s why I included the fact that I went to a high school that had an engineering major.
